As part of the BFI Black Star season, New York film programmer Bruce Goldstein presented an acclaimed compilation tribute to Harold and Fayard Nicholas, entitled The Fabulous Nicholas Brothers. The legendary African-American dancers, who, despite racial hurdles, became one of the biggest musical acts of their time.
We were invited by Picture House Cinema and Eleven Fifty Five to create a campaign to be used in cinemas across the UK. The brief was to capture the movement, energy and dynamic approach seen in the Brothers work. It needed to be celebratory and fun, visually drawing from the era but with fresh contemporary appeal.
Our approach combined striking black and white imagery with bold, expressive typography. The campaign was applied to various applications including multiple poster formats, a printed promotional brochure, a selection of social media items and graphics to be used on cinema screens.
