Pain at the Dentist was the first show from the Alvarado Gallery. Its location, an old dentist surgery inspired the name of the show. Artists, designers and illustrators were asked to produce works that explored our relationship with the endurance of pain.
Commissioned to design the campaign for the show, it was important that we emphasised the link to the venue. We based the campaign around dental records; unique to everyone, they represent a personal journey and the endurance of the individual. Drawing from a clinical visual language, the layout, materials and the minimal colour palette reflected those reminiscent of the dentist.
The deliverables for the campaign included an exhibition catalogue, silk screen printed invites, promotional postcards and posters, a microsite and the environmental graphics for the show. A limited edition run of 50 silk screened posters were also produced to be handed out at the private view.
